The Role:

 

Senior Manager: Pricing (Europe)

 

The Senior Manager, Pricing (Europe) will be the senior-most pricing professional based in Europe and will lead the delivery of pricing support across the region. Working as part of the global Pricing & Matter Performance function, the role will partner closely with partners, practice leaders, business development professionals, Finance and Firm leadership to develop commercially sound pricing strategies, assess fee arrangements and support client negotiations.

 

The Senior Manager will also manage the day-to-day activities of the Europe pricing team and help advance consistent global pricing practices, tools and capabilities.

 

Hours:

 

Standard hours are 9:30am to 5:30pm with flexibility in accordance with the needs of the business.     

Our current working from home policy allows for two days working from home, subject to business need. This policy is subject to change and does not form part of contractual terms.

Responsibilities

Pricing and commercial strategy

  • Partner with relationship partners, practice leaders and Firm leadership on the development and renegotiation of commercial arrangements with key clients, ensuring alignment among client objectives, practice priorities and broader Firm strategy.
  • Work directly with partners and other Firm personnel to develop pricing options and strategies in response to client RFPs, rate agreement renewals, panel appointments, alternative fee arrangement opportunities and ad hoc pricing requests.
  • Clearly articulate the benefits, risks and trade-offs of pricing options from both the client and Firm perspectives.
  • Lead the financial assessment of proposed pricing arrangements, including their economic impact and viability, and present recommendations and matter economics to partners and Firm management as appropriate.
  • Facilitate the review and approval of fee arrangements in accordance with Firm policy.
  • Review existing pricing and rate arrangements to identify opportunities to improve commercial performance and profitability.

Regional leadership and team management

  • Lead the day-to-day delivery of the Europe pricing function and serve as the primary pricing contact for the region.
  • Manage, support and develop pricing team members in Europe, including work allocation, performance management, recruitment, onboarding and integration with the broader global Pricing & Matter Performance function.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with partners, Firm management and Business Services professionals to support the effective execution of the role.
  • Collaborate with regional pricing leads and global colleagues on the design and implementation of pricing processes, governance, systems and technologies, including those relating to alternative fee arrangements and rate management.
  • Drive greater adoption of the Firm's pricing resources through targeted partner outreach, practical guidance and demonstration of the value that Pricing can bring to client relationships.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of lawyer training on pricing strategy, fee negotiations and related commercial concepts, working with Attorney Learning & Development and other relevant teams.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

Essential:

Degree in finance, accounting, business or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

 

Useful but not essential:

Legal qualification or background in legal services; CIMA, ACCA, MBA or comparable professional qualification.

 

Experience, skills and personal attributes:

 

  • Significant experience providing pricing, commercial, financial or profitability support within a partnership or professional services environment, preferably a law firm.
  • A strong track record of influencing senior stakeholders and translating financial and commercial analysis into practical pricing recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting fee discussions, commercial negotiations, rate reviews and alternative fee arrangements.
  • Experience leading workstreams or a regional service offering and managing, mentoring or developing team members.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients, partners and colleagues, listen to differing perspectives and propose creative, workable solutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the credibility to communicate clearly and succinctly with partners, Business Development, Finance, Firm management and other stakeholders.
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, ideally as part of a broader team focused on professional services pricing, financial analysis, legal operations, legal technology, or practice or engagement management.
  • Advanced capability in creating, developing and maintaining financial models in a pricing context.
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. Experience with Power BI is desirable, and SQL skills are an advantage. Experience with GenAI platforms (Harvey, Copilot, GPT, Claude, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and organise work effectively.
  • Knowledge of multi-currency financial systems commonly used in the legal industry, preferably Aderant Expert.
  • Strong analytical, evaluative and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to analyse data and present meaningful, usable insights to partners and Firm management.
  • Strong commercial acumen, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and well organised, with the ability to anticipate client, partner and team needs.
